Mosaic’s Education Department offers a variety of classes for young people ages 6-19 at different locations throughout Metro Detroit. Check out our class offerings and see if one will work for you!
Beginning Drama and Movement Classes for 6-10 year-olds at the Boll Family YMCA Center Classes are now full! Please call Carollette Goodman at (313) 872-6910 ext. 4018 to be placed on the waiting list.
Acting and Singing Classes for 11-19 year-olds at YouthVille Detroit
Who: Dramatic, energetic and talented teens (no experience necessary)
What: FREE beginning acting and singing classes for 11-19 year-olds
Where: YouthVille Detroit, 7375 Woodward, Detroit 48202, at the corner of W. Grand Blvd. and Woodward, (313) 875-3400.
When: Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:45pm from March 10th – May 22nd 2008. Registration is ongoing.
How: Must be a member of YouthVille Detroit in order to participate in classes ($25 annual fee). For more information, call Krystal Russell at (313) 872-6910 or come to YouthVille Detroit during regular class hours to register.
Teatro Mosaico
Who: 10-14 year olds who speak Spanish and English and like to have fun
What: FREE beginning acting classes with a focus on Latino Arts and Culture
Where: Classes meet at Center of Music and Performing Arts Southwest (COMPAS) in Oddfellows Hall, located at 8701 W. Vernor, Detroit 48209 (corner of W. Vernor and Lawndale)
When: Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6pm. Registration is ongoing.

Acting Classes for 10-14 year-olds sponsored by the Detroit-Grosse Pointe Collaborative
Who: 10-14 year-olds who live in zip codes 48214, 48215, 48224, 48236 and 48230
What: Beginning theatre classes
Where: Classes meet at Grace Community Church, 21001 Moross Rd. Detroit, MI 48236
When: Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-7pm from April 2nd – May 23rd, 2008.
How: Cost of $150 for the eight week session, with some partial and full scholarships available. For more information, contact Renee Gilmore at (313) 833-1600.
Acting Classes at The Osborn Arts Center (Detroit’s East-side)
Who: Dynamic, talented 10-14 year-olds (no acting experience necessary)
What: FREE beginning acting classes
Where: Classes meet at The Center (Matrix Human Services), located at 13560 E. McNichols, Detroit, 48205
When: Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30pm from January 8 – May 23, 2008. Registration is ongoing.

Mosaic Summer Programs
Mosaic currently offers the following summer programs. To receive information by mail, please call (313) 872-6910 x4008 and leave your name and address.
MOSAIC SUMMER CAMP FOR 6-10 YEAR-OLDS
Beginning experience in acting, dancing and singing for 6-10 year-olds. Two 3-week sessions will be held on-site at Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit located at 610 Antoinette Detroit, MI 48202:
- Camp I- Will be held June 23rd-July 11, 2008. Monday- Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm
- Camp II- Will be held July 14th-August 1, 2008. Monday- Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm
Tuition is $300 for each 3-week session, including a $25 non-refundable deposit due at registration. Limited partial and full scholarships are available. To apply for a scholarship, your child must write or dictate (to you) a one-page letter on why they should receive a scholarship for Mosaic Camp. Scholarship letters should be turned in at the time of registration. Register in person at Mosaic’s offices M-F during regular business hours or by downloading the registration form from our website (see below) and mailing it in with the $25 non-refundable deposit.

Mosaic-WCCCD Summer Institute for 11-18 year-olds
Intermediate intensive training in Acting, Vocal Performance and Dance. One 3-week session will be held at the Wayne County Community College District Downriver Campus. The WCCCD Summer Institute will run Monday-Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm, June 30th-July 18, at WCCCD located at located at 21000 Northline Rd. Taylor, MI 48180
Tuition is $150 for the 3-week session with some partial and full scholarships available by audition. Young artists MUST interview or audition to be accepted into the WCCCD Summer Institute. No previous experience required. Interviews and auditions will take place:
- Saturday, May 17, from 10am – 1pm at WCCCD’s Downriver campus located at 21000 Northline Rd. Taylor, MI 48180
- Saturday June 7 from 10am – 1pm at Mosaic, 610 Antoinette, Detroit, MI 48202
To audition, young artists should determine which discipline they are most interested in and prepare the following:
- Acting- memorize a one-minute poem or monologue and come prepared to perform.
- Vocal Music- memorize a one-minute a capella (without musical accompaniment)
song to perform.
- Dance- prepare 2 minutes of choreography to perform.
Detroit-Grosse Point Summer Theatre Institute
Beginning experience in the performing arts. One 3-week session will be held at Grace Community Church in Detroit. The Detroit-Grosse Pointe Summer Institute will run Monday – Friday from 12pm – 4pm, July 14th – August 2nd at Grace Community Church 21001 Moross Road, Detroit 48236
Tuition is $150 for the 3-week session with some partial and full scholarships available by audition. Young artists MUST interview or audition to be accepted into the Detroit-Grosse Pointe Summer Institute. No previous experience required. Interview and/or audition at Grace Community Church from Tuesday, May 27th-Thursday, May 29th, 2008 from 6:00-8:00pm each day. For more information, contact Renee Gilmore at (313) 833-1600.
Summer Acting and Singing Classes at Youthville Detroit for 11-19 year-olds
FREE beginning acting and singing classes for 11-19 year-olds who are members of YouthVille Detroit. Summer sessions of Mosaic classes at YouthVille Detroit are as follows:
- Theatre classes will meet June 23rd-July 18th, Mon-Fri from 5-7pm
- Choir classes/YouthVille Idol will meet July 21st-April 15th, Mon-Fri from 5-7pm
