A Model for Youth Development through the Arts
- In Mosaic's history, more than 95% of the Youth Ensemble Artists have graduated from high school and have gone on to college.
- Mosaic alums annually receive college scholarships and are heavily recruited by many of the nation's top universities. Miami University in Ohio has created a scholarship specifically for Mosaic alums.
Selected to perform or lead workshop sessions for national conferences of the American Federation of Teachers , the American Council on Education , the National Council of Foundations , and the International
Museum Theatre Association.

Anti-Violence Program
• 1999 - National Endowment of the Arts’ Coming Up Taller Award - presented during a White House ceremony by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities
• 1998 – The prestigious Governors’ Award for Arts and Culture: One of only 3 Michigan cultural organization awardees - in recognition of Mosaic’s “outstanding contributions
regionally and statewide.”
• 1996 - Selected as the Sole U.S. Representative to the World Festival of Children’s Theatre in Copenhagen, Denmark.
• 1996 - Detroit Monthly Magazine and Detroit CBS TV-62 Best of Detroit Award as the city’s Best Role Model
• Mosaic Youth Theatre has traveled the world and performed in Singapore; London, England; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Dakar, Senegal, where they were invited to sing with the African Roots
Choir in 2003. In the United States, they have entertained crowds on the campuses of Cornell University, Julliard, Spelman College, Morehouse College, Tennessee State University, Tougaloo College, and many other schools, as well as at The Kennedy Center
and The White House. The Mosaic Singers have been honored to open for Al Green, Pete Seeger, Aretha Franklin, Sweet Honey in the Rock and The Temptations. They have also been chosen to perform at numerous major events including the final game at Tiger Stadium,
the 2006 Detroit Mayoral Inauguration, visits from the United States President, for Michigan’s Governor Granholm, and at several of the Super Bowl XL Festivities. |
